Peacock butterfly

This peacock butterfly has also been frequenting this bush. I have been able to identify it as the same one because of a slight damage to the edge of its right wing.peacock butterfly on berberis bush

  1. Sue’s absolutely right, this is a beautiful photo. I love the autumnal colours of the peacock and the berberis (a nice garden plant that should be treated with respect as pruning it can leave one a little prickled). I like the fact that Peacocks are hibernators and are often one of the first to emerge from some sheltered enclave on a sunny spring day. They do get a little tatty towards the end of their life cycle but don’t we all – I think it adds to their charm. It’s lovely that you’ve been able to discern this is the same regular visitor.
