My first ever attempt at photographing fireworks. I wasn’t at the display but watching from a distance so there are trees in the way that are not meant to be there.

In blue

    • I agree with Sue – did not see any yet this year. New Year’s Eve is the time in Munich. Our normally quiet street turns into Basra by midnight and in the morning there’s more shells than she sells. My attempts at capturing the sheer folly of sending money up in flames always come out as blurry, but this certainly captures the spray and rain of a rocket. I rather like the tree silhouettes too. The wife of an old school friend had a relative in fireworks and she told me that blue is the costliest colour.

      • I was on f8, ISO 100, Bulb setting and definitely a tripod. I was a long way from the display as you couldn’t get near to the park and used a 70-200mm L lens. The difficult part was knowing where to focus (auto focus) and when and for how long to keep the shutter pressed. I think I had a bit of beginners luck actually. 🙂

  1. Thanks Sue. As this was the first time I had ever tried to photograph fireworks I got really excited about it, just like a kid on xmas eve. Well they say you regress as you get older. 😉

  2. I think the trees add to the efect, the fireworks of themselves are gorgeous, but the trees help make the image exceptional and beautiful. Nicely done. 🙂
